One Additional Information Request — Residence Permit Granted

An additional information request can sometimes become the most important stage of a residence permit application.  

In this case, our client’s application had already been pending for approximately 18 months when further clarification was required. The application had originally been submitted under a legal basis that did not properly reflect the applicant’s actual situation, so our response also asked the Finnish Immigration Service to assess the matter under the appropriate family-ties basis instead of requiring the client to start the entire process again.  

Correcting the legal basis was only one part of the response. 

Migri requested extensive evidence regarding the family’s means of support and financial situation. The response included bank statements, company financial statements and current accounts, tax information, documentation concerning employees and salaries, the spouse’s employment contract, and documentation concerning the company’s business premises. 

The documents have to tell the same story as the application. The legal basis, family circumstances, income, employment and business activity all need to support one another. When the case has already been pending for a long time, it is also important to consider whether the issue can be corrected within the existing application instead of unnecessarily starting the process again. 

Our team prepared a detailed response addressing Migri’s questions, explaining the applicant’s actual family situation, and presenting the documentation supporting the family’s financial circumstances. We also argued why the application should be assessed according to its true circumstances.  

On 1 September 2026, the client finally received the answer she had been waiting for: 
The residence permit was granted. 

After a long processing period, an extensive additional information request and a case that required both factual and legal clarification, the process ended with a positive first residence permit decision based on family ties. 

Sometimes an additional information request is not simply a request for another document. It can be an opportunity to correct the direction of the entire case.
